The Supreme Court on Friday rejected BJP leader G Janardhana Reddy’s plea to visit Bellary to campaign for his younger brother, Gali Somashekhara Reddy, who is a candidate for the upcoming assembly elections in Karnataka.

The Court said that Janardhana Reddy is on bail and cannot visit Bellary for the May 12 elections.

Ever since Gali Somashekhara Reddy and Karunakara Reddy were named as the candidates for the assembly election, BJP has been facing intense criticism from the Congress.

During the earlier BJP government in the state, the Reddy brothers have been accused of conducting large-scale illegal mining across the iron-ore-rich district of Bellary.

Under illegal mining charges, Janardhana Reddy was even arrested twice in 2011 and 2015. Later, he was granted bail by the Supreme Court in 2015.

The controversial mining baron Gali Janardhana Reddy was soon seen campaigning across the district for the BJP. Since he was from entering his home-town Bellary, the BJP leader was seen just outside the district on Wednesday campaigning for his friend V Sriramulu, the BJP candidate in Molakalmuru.
