The Sunni leader and state secretary of Sunni Yuvajana Sangham , Nazar Faizi Koodathayi has urged the people to turn to reciting ‘Manqoos Moulid’ , Surah al-Yaseen ,the 36th chapter of the Quran and to invoke the Sheikh Abdul Khader Gilani one thousand times in groups along side taking the Necessary precautions and treatments as suggested by the senior Sunni scholar Vavad Kunhikoya Musaliar on Tuesday.

Koodathayi states that this has been done before during the outbreak of contagious diseases in Mallapuram decades ago and had effect while the authorities were struggling at that time.

In opposition , the Salafis state that doing such prayers would be un-Islamic , that such things are an effort to bring back superstitious beliefs and that Sunni prayer is against basic tenets is Islam as it suggests polytheism .

Wisdom Leader C P Saleem has stated that the Salafis have been fighting such practises from the 1940s and that some orthodox sections have prevented giving of medicine during previous outbreaks.
