H.D Kumaraswamy yet to declare waiver for farm loans

H D Kumaraswamy, the CM of Karnataka, has yet to announce the waiver of farm loans from cooperative, private and commercial banks as promised by JD(S) which was to be done within 24 hours of coming into power.

The CM when pressurised by BJP to declare the waiver has stated empathetically, that he was not obligated to the 6.5 crore people of Karnataka but that he is obligated to the Congress. He has also sought a week’s time to convince his alliance partner, Congress, to announce the waiver and that he would resign from the position otherwise.

In response to BJP’s call for statewide bandh, the CM stated that he would not be going back on the farm loan waiver but that such decision can only be done after looking at the financial situation which can only done after the cabinet expansion.

The CM also appealed for the farmers to not take any drastic steps, like taking their lives.The CM is set to meet PM Modi on Monday at 5:30pm.
