Sushma Swaraj calls for development, South-South cooperation at IBSA summit

Swaraj while on her five-day visit to South Africa?s capital Johannesburg to attend the BRICS ministerial meeting also took part in the India-Brazil-South-Africa (IBSA) summit held in Pretoria.

As per a release by the Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday, the leaders discussed furthering IBSA cooperation within this year.

The leaders further "adopted and jointly released the IBSA Declaration on South-South Cooperation, to contribute to greater understanding of development cooperation as a common endeavor of the Global South."

They discussed the proposed IBSA events planned to be held within this year to mark the fifteenth anniversary of the organisation. The events will be held in all the three countries on the margins of multilateral events.

Discussions were held regarding various multilateral missions to be pursued as part of Buenos Aires Plan of Action (BAPA+40) events.

South Africa and Brazil expressed their gratitude towards India for hosting this meeting.

Later on 28 September, 9th IBSA ministerial commission meeting is scheduled to be held in New York on the margins of 73rd United Nations General Assembly session.
