NEW DELHI:The CBI had alleged in March,2007 that INX media breached the condition on which it has been allowed by FIPB to raise 46 percent equity through share issues. It was also alleged that INX media had bypassed FIPB, to make 26 percent downstream investment in INX News Private Limited.

Chidambaram’s son, Karti has already been arrested for the case and is out on bail.After statements made by Indrani Mukherjee and Peter Mukherjee, which were recorded earlier this year, stating that the minister was the one who guided them into a deal with Karti, the ex-finance minister has been under consideration, for being a suspect in the case.

The minister is also being suspected for approving the FIPB proposal, by INX media.He was questioned by the CBI on the case, as a suspect, for four hours.

After coming out of the questioning, the minister tweeted that he had appeared before the CBI and that they had no allegations against him in the FIR.

Sources state that the minister was confronted with the finance ministry documents, statements of other witnesses, and other evidence.
