Priya Singh, 19 has been selected for the top six, who would be participating in the Juniors Shooting World Cup, which is to take place in Germany.

Meerut: Priya Singh, 19 has been selected for the top six, who would be participating in the Juniors Shooting World Cup, which is to take place in Germany.

The 19 year old, is the daughter of a Dalit labourer in Meerut’s Mawana subdivision. She has been able to make it into the top six shortlisted for the world cup but is facing financial constraints, which may prevent her from participating in the event.

The top three of the candidates selected for the world cup are paid for, by the government but the remaining three candidates have to take care of their finances.

Priya ranked at 4th which does not allow her expenses to be paid by the government, which given her financial situation, makes it very hard for her to pay for the trip.

The expenses for the trip is Rs 4.5 lakhs and her father has already sold his buffalo for Rs 50,000. Priya doesn’t even have a rifle to use for the competition.

The 19 year old’s father has stated that a friend of his has agreed to lend their 0.22 peep sight Anschutz rifle, which is required for the competition.

The Indian junior team coach at NRAI,Deepak Dubey has stated that she is of rare talent and that she could do wonders for the country.

He has also stated that she has got her visa with the association’s help and that she would have to arrange her expenses for the trip herself.
