MUMBAI: A man, 30, in the early hours of Saturday climbed the Doordarshan Tower in Worli in South Mumbai and demanded media coverage. He was later misled by the officials by putting up fake video cameras on the ground and persuaded that medi had arrived as per his demand.

His action made the police and the fire brigade officials agitated. A resident of neighbouring Thane district, Ajay Paswan, climbed to the fourth level of the Doordarshan Tower in the midnight, a fire brigade official said.

“ He is a driver, and lost his job last month. He wanted to tell his grievance to media, and when our team reached the spot, he demanded that reporters of TV channels should come there,” the official said.

After climbing the tower he then called the police control room from his mobile. The efforts to convince him to come down were fruitless.

“Finally, around 7am, we placed dummy video cameras on the ground, and told him that media had arrived . Some of our men shouted that they were reporters. This trick worked and he came down,” the official added.
