Militants fired upon the party at a naka near the Batamaloo area of the city, a CRPF spokesman said.

On Sunday, MoS Jitendra Singh said killing of security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir could be a conspiracy to discourage local youth from joining security forces.

"One after the other, our security forces are successfully moving ahead in their anti-militancy operations, but killings of local security personnel can be a conspiratorial design to discourage local Kashmiri youth from joining the security forces."

There have been a series of targeted killings of security men in the state, with the latest one being in Kulgam where terrorists abducted a police constable and later his bullet-riddled body was found from Qaimoh Gath area in the district.

The constable was identified as Mohd Salim.

Earlier this month, the body of another police constable was found by locals at Pariwan village in Kulgam, a day after he was abducted from a medical shop in Shopian. The constable, identified as Javaid Ahmad Dar, was a resident of Vehil village. An army jawan, Auranzeb was abducted and killed on June 14 in Pulwama.
