New Delhi: Central Vigilance Commissioner K V Chowdary on Thursday underlined the importance of technological intervention for eradicating corruption, saying it can bring transparency and efficiency and reduce discretion in recruitment and allotment of various facilities.

He was addressing students, teachers, resident welfare associations, employees, senior officers of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), municipal corporations of Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR) at a seminar on "Eradicate Corruption – Build a New India", organised as part of the Vigilance Week at the NDMC Convention Centre here.

"To build a 'New India', firstly we have to eradicate corruption from each and every aspect of daily life. Corruption corrodes the vitals of the economy and is one of the major hindrances to economic and social progress of our nation.

"Technological intervention can be an effective and perfect tool to bring transparency and efficiency to reduce discretion in the fields of recruitment, allotments and other citizen facilities," he said.

"And, we have to maintain the society attitude towards integrity and fight against corruption, if we have to achieve a corruption-free 'New India'," he said.

Lauding the efforts of NDMC with regard to implementation of e-governance, he said documentation of the system was the need of the hour so that other civic bodies and departments of government could emulate it.

Chowdary also administered the integrity pledge to the audience and gave away trophies and certificates to meritorious students, who were adjudged the best in various competitions organised by the NDMC in its schools.
