Perhaps this letter is one of the few trending feverishly viral with the netizens. An open letter addressed to the future Prime Minister candidate Narendra Modi by none other Gopalkrishna Gandhi, the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi has caught the attention of the virtual realm. Gandhi, who was also a previous senior democrat and an ex-Governor to West Bengal went all classy with his ‘appeal’ to the BJP front runner. While congratulating hearty wishes, Gandhi also raised few active pointers like clever needles, making statements, urging the future PM to ‘Reassure the minorities…do not patronise them”
Mr Gandhi went candid with his feelings stating that he was definitely not one of the many who want to see Modi reach the highest office to run the Country. Further balancing the letter with diplomatic statements, he expressed his joy to see a normal Chaiwala with no background whatsoever making it to become the strong contender representing one of the biggest nationalist parties of India. “What a wonderful thing it is, I said to myself, that one who has made and served Chai for a living should be able to head the government of India. Far better bearing a Pyala to many than being a Chamcha to one” he stated.
Furthermore, the successor of the great legacy went ahead and explained to NaMo the reasons for his win in the Lok Sabha Elections. He stressed on the fact that BJP won this time with a sweeping majority because Modi managed to capture the imagination of 31 percent of the population. He substantiated time and again about Modi’s past in Gujarat, opining that the remaining 69 percent did not see the BJP chief as their Rakhwala (caretaker).
The letter ran with long content making Mr Gandhi iterate on the meaning of Desh, giving some historic insights about the Country, the past rulers, The Ayodhya episode and the Muslim scars. “No one should have the impudence to speak the monarchist language of uniformism to a republic of pluralism, the vocabulary of oneness to an imagination of many- nesses, the grammar of consolidation to a sensibility that thrives in and on its variations” he mentioned, pointing directly at Modi’s strong pro Hinduistic principles.
“A historic win it has been for you, Mr. Modi, for which, once again, congratulations. Let it be followed by a historic innings, which stuns the world by surprises your supporters may not want of you but many more would want to see you unfurl. You are hugely intelligent and will not mind unsolicited but disinterested advice of one from an earlier generation. Requite the applause of your support-base but, equally, redeem the trust of those who have not supported you. When you reconstitute the Minorities Commission, ask the Opposition to give you all the names and accept them without change. And do the same for the panels on Scheduled Castes and Tribes, and Linguistic Minorities.” added the writer, showcasing some chastening thoughts on the fears and questions instilled inside many looking forward to the Modi Rule in the country.
While some sections of the masses laud such an open appeal, the others merely cracked a joke stating that this was the closest where Congress and the survivors of the Gandhi’s lost legacy could get to ‘Strategize and Envision’ here on.
