One can be an immoral person behind layers of veils and can be epitome of grace and modesty in a mini skirt.

One sunny afternoon, I was driving in one of the safest places in my city, when a duo on a bike started stalking me. The guys kept whistling, honking and passed immoral comments. These two seemingly well-educated guys followed me till my destination. That unfortunate day, I forgot my helmet and scarf. So I was an easy prey to eve teasing. I wished I had helmet at least, though it wouldn’t suffice. It is helmet and veil that is needed. Helmet to protect from accidents and scarf to protect from such rogues.

Are we going back in time? In North India, earlier women were told that covering the head is a mark of respect towards elders. However in South India, the veil was almost non-existent, but now has become integral part of a girls attire be it north or south. Women in Haryana threw off their veils and discarded centuries of subjugation. While we are happy about them, the ladies in metropolis prefer being shroud. When every possible measure is being taken to let women come out of the veil, why do we feel safe covered.
There are many other reasons girls wear masks apart from protecting themselves from heat, tan, pollution etc. They favor masks to seek liberties under the cloak of anonymity. They hide their relationships from relatives and parents who are against dating. In contrast guys seen with the veiled women are not living in any such fears. If the families could understand and accept the youthful desires, youngsters could meet in privacy and comfort at their homes. While their own homes pose threat, youth feel safe and free enough to express themselves in public under oblivion. Real modesty cannot be hidden or replaced with veils. One can be an immoral person behind layers of veils and can be epitome of grace and modesty in a mini skirt.
I often hear guys annoyed with the masked ladies and the city being filled with veiled girls. They even argue if we are facing issues, call the helpline number and also the police to help. Agreed!! It would take me less than a minute to get down and bark at those guys. But how many guys should we girls deal with day in and out. My city has one of the adorable climates. But I wear mask, to secure myself from eve teasing. We girls want to go out without unwanted stares and comments.
Ladies should discard the intrusion of veil and not let it rob her identity and start loving the anonymity, which is possible only if both the genders treat each other with respect.
