Adilabad: The bandh called given by the Left parties and supported by the Congress evoked no response in Adilabad, Manchiryal, Asifabad and Nirmal districts.

Leaders and activists of the Left parties organised a rally here at Ambedkar Circle appealing to the people to observe a shutdown. The poor were facing serious problems on account of demonetisation, said CPI(M) leader Dathu. While criticising the Centre, he demanded withdrawal of the demonetisation measures.

While criticising the Centre for failing to make alternate arrangements to ease the hardship of people, leaders of the Left and Congress parties separately tried to lay siege to the Collectorate.

They held dharnas and set fire to an effigy of the Union government.Leaders like Rajanna of CPI stated that they were welcoming the Centre’s decision.

But the Union government should have made efforts to provide relief to people who were forced to wait at banks for hours for securing new notes in place of the banned Rs.500 and Rs.1,000, he added.

They said that some of the people suffered heart attacks while waiting in queues and in some parts of the country, people also died unable to bear the strain, he added.

In Kamareddy, activists of CPI (ML), New Democracy, PDSU, IFTU held protest demonstrations in the town and burnt the effigy of the Union Government.

They said the demonetisation move had hit the poor and the middle classes hard as they were finding it difficult to get cash for their daily expenses.

They lashed out at the Prime Minister for failing to take any precautionary measures to mitigate the suffering of the people. PDSU divisional president D Suresh, secretary GVM Vithal, IFTU leader Anand Mohan and others were present.
