Khanapur: District Panchayat Officer (DPO) Narayana directed the officials to complete all the pending works in villages at a review meeting with officials and sarpanches at the Kadem MPDO’s office on Wednesday.
The DPO said that cent per cent taxes should be collected, while pointing out that development work in village has stopped after scrapping of Rs.500 and Rs.1,000 notes. He advised the officials not to neglect payment of taxes by people while striving to achieve 100 per cent collection.
He stressed the need for expeditious collection of ‘Karobar’ taxes in all villages, for the development of which the government had released the 14th Finance Commission funds.
Narayana wanted the sarpanches to immediately submit audit reports of villages to officials, as their non-submission had delayed the release of funds to the panchayats. He suggested that the funds should be first utilised for solving water problems in villages.
The DPO wanted the panchayat secretaries to inspect on a regular basis records of funds spent for taking up development works in villages.
He advised the sarpanches not to lose their power of issuing cheques by committing small mistakes. “Both the panchayat secretaries and the sarpanches should strive for achieving development in rural areas”.
He directed EOPRD Srilatha to ensure that the cheques are signed only after the records of the sarpanches were scrutinised. He wanted dumping yards to be set up in villages and asked the officials to furnish details of villages which lack such yards.
he DPO stressed the need for taking up cashless transactions in the context of scrapping of Rs.500 and rs.1,000 notes. He said efforts have been made to pay pensions through ATMs.
Narayana suggested to the sarpanches to strive for putting up graveyards in 24 villages of the mandal and to arrange bores and motors connections in grave yards. He called for improved sanitation and water power besides arranging of electric bulbs.
The DPO drew the attention of officials that tax collection in Kadem mandal was lax and stress that it should be expedited. He wanted the panchayats to hold meetings of panchayats and to discuss their problems. Among those present at the meeting were Srilatha, panchayat secretaries, sarpanches and ‘karobars’.
