Christina Z Chongtu transferred

Nizamabad: Christina Z Chongtu who strove as the district Collector for the implementation of various welfare programmes introduced by State and Central governments in Nizamabad district and who was known for her integrity was shifted from the district on Thursday. Mr Pradyumna, working as Joint Collector in Warangal district, has been appointed as Collector of Nizamabad in her place.

Ms Chongtu has been on medical (maternity) leave since July 7 and was transferred while on leave. However, she was not given any posting in the transfer order. She belongs to Aizwal in Mizoram state. She had worked as Joint Collector at Karimnagar and Mahbubnagar districts and as Managing Director for AP Seeds Corporation. She was appointed District Collector (for the first time) in Nizamabad district on July 31, 2012. Though, she studied MBBS, she chose civil service with the intention of serving people.

As soon as she resumed the charge, she had determined to work for the welfare of the people in the district. She was not influenced by the political pressures. She maintained distance from Major Irrigation Minister P Sudarshan Reddy and Government Whip E Anil Kumar. At certain stage the leaders wanted to shift her. Ms Chongtu, during her tenure, inspected Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies (PACS), Anganwadi Centres, Social Welfare Hostels, Kasturba Gandhi Residential Schools for Girls, government schools, mandal level offices and other offices regularly. She used to give proper instructions to the officials for the implementation of programmes. She also strove for implementation of `Maarpu’ programme for the welfare of pregnant women at Government Hospitals. She completed almost one year before she went on leave on July 7.
