Medak: Two ruling party legislators, Dubbaka MLA Cheruku Muthyam Reddy and MLC Farooq Hussain, created an unseemly situation at the District Review Committee meeting here on Saturday, by trading charges against each other. They indulged in abuses in unprintable language in the presence of two Ministers D K Aruna and J Geetha Reddy and a host of legislators from the ruling and the opposition parties as well as high-level officials. At one stage, they almost came to blows and the timely intervention of fellow legislators avoided an ugly situation. Peace prevailed in the meeting after a stern warning from the two ministers. It all started when Muthyam Reddy objected to sanctioning of funds to some works in his Dubbaka constituency on the proposal of someone else, apparently referring to the MLC Farooq Hussain. When he questioned the officials "how can you sanction funds on the proposals of a thief," Farooq Hussain objected. Muthyam Reddy at that stage shouted at Hussain calling him a thief. Farooq Hussain was livid with anger and started hurling choicest abuses at Muthyam Reddy. Hussain alleged that Muthyam Reddy was favoring the workers of other parties ignoring the congress party. He went a step further and said he was planning to switch sides and encouraging congress workers to leave the party. The meeting hall resonated with the abuses of the ruling party legislators. The district in-charge Minister D K Aruna intervened, pacified both of them, and brought the meeting in to order. Speaking for the time, Muthyam Reddy resumed his tirade against Hussain and he retaliated with equal measure. At one stage, Muthyam Reddy tried lift a chair to hurl at Hussain. But some legislators sitting by his side prevented him to do so. The Minister Aruna again intervened and chided them for attacking each other at the DRC meeting meant to discuss the development activities in the district. This brought peace and the meeting continued. But after the meeting, Muthyam Reddy and Farooq Hussain resumed their unseemly tirade against each other in the presence of the media outside the meeting hall. Minister's directiveA to officials The district in-charge Minister D K Aruna instructed district officials to take steps to protect crops of the farmers due to power cuts and supply drinking water to all villages during the summer.
