Speakers at the Open Forum organised by the Children’s Film Society of India (CFSI) felt that local content and marketing of the film are important for success of children’s films.

The Open Forum was organised by the CFSI on the topic of “Evolving Indian kids programming with 360” approach” at Media Centre at Prasad’s Imax, in Hyderabad on Sunday.

CFSI Chairperson Shri Mukesh Khanna said the content of the film is important for its success. Any film is considered success when it reaches the kids and added that he would consider any award winning film abroad would only benefit the Director/Filmmaker but not the audience. Shri Mukesh Khanna said the biggest source of film is knowledge and this would change the thinking of youth. The country would have largest youth population in the world in the coming years and it would be beneficial to the country if only they took right path and this where the content of the film plays a important role by teaching values, he felt.

Dr .Shravan Kumar, CEO CFSI, while agreeing to the point that content is important, he said content should be ethnic and in Indian style. He said 360 degree content would make the story telling complete and added that marketing of the film also played in important role. He quoted the example of animation film “Goopi Gawayaa Bhagha Bhajaiaya” made by CFSI which got accolades at International forum. He said the film’s content was ethnic and animated in Indian style not the Disney way.

Shri Sameer Jain, Co-founder, GJA, recalled the efforts of his team to market his biggest hit animated film “Chota Bheem” . The content was contemporrary and not connected with Mahabhara the epic story, he claimed. He said the Bheem character was concived on the lines of Mahabharat hero Bheem. The Chota Bheem was aired in 15 countries in the last 4 years.

Gabriel Rennen, an Award winning Film Director, said that a film should have local content acceptable to the audience. Shri Ashish Kulkarni, chairman, AVGC – FICCI was moderator to the programme. Shri Manish Agarwal, CEO, Nazara Games, within 5 days of the release of Chotta Bheem game it topped the I Tune charts in India. It was first time a local game topped the I Tune charts in the country.
