Tirupati: Elaborate arrangements have been made by the Tirupati Urban Police for the smooth conduct of JEE which is scheduled for April 7. Urban Superintendent of Police SV Rajasekhara Babu held a meeting with owners of various lodges in the town and told them not to collect additional amount from the students for accommodation.

Later, he held a meeting with the officials of all wings of urban police on Friday and suggested them to establish help centres at railway station and bus station to guide the students and their parents to reach the exam centres on time.

A few help centres are being established at the railway station and bus station to extend help to students and their parents. He also directed the traffic wing to regulate traffic at all exam centres as well as establishment of parking lots near the exam centres. The Superintendent of Police instructed the officials concerned to close the Photostat copying centres near the exam centres during the examination time.

Meanwhile, the local administration is also making arrangements for accommodation to students and their parents and spoke to the various voluntary organisations and educational institutions in this regard. Civic chief of Tirupati held a meeting with managements of private choultries and function halls and requested them to provide accommodation for a day and in turn they promised to provide shelter for 2,400 persons.

A few individuals also promised to provide accommodation at their residences to students and their parents. Retired officers of banks, schools, colleges and various departments also ready to provide accommodation.

Coordinator Rohit Panda said that one exam centre was set up at Renigunta and three centres in Chandragiri and the remaining 30 centres were set up in Tirupati. For all these centres, 34 observers and 14 supplementary staff have been appointed for smooth conduct of exam, he added.

To review the arrangements, the officials from CBSE are arriving at Tirupati on Saturday, and will discuss about the arrangements like providing drinking water, furniture, power supply and required staff. Already the District Collector and local administration asked the electrical department to provide uninterrupted power supply throughout the day for the convenience of students. In all, 18,683 candidates are appearing for B Tech (9.30 am to 12.30 pm) and 3,773 candidates for B Arch (2.30-5.30 pm).
