Surveillance cameras installed in Zoo Park

Tirupati: The Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park had installed seven surveillance cameras to strengthen its security few weeks ago. The zoo installed an oscillating zoom camera at the main entrance and six surveillance cameras at other places. All these cameras are connected to a computer at the Zoo Curator's Office. Though there is no specific threat or history of untoward incidents in the zoo park, The authorities have installed the cameras as a precautionary measure at Animal Rescue Centre � 1 and 2, Leopards cage, Bengal Tiger's enclosure, Jaguar's enclosure and White Tiger's enclosure. These cameras work round-the-clock. After Sakhi's murder (Bengal Tiger) at Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad, the curator of SV Zoo Park took the initiative and installed the cameras. As this is a prestigious zoo and spread over 800 hectares, the patrolling and other monitoring systems are essential. SV Zoo Park has two Animal Rescue Centres where 44 lions are taking shelter. All these lions were rescued from circuses a few years ago. A few lions have lost their hunting capabilities and were suffering from old age problems, hence, were kept in rescue centres. As these two rescue centres are far from the main entrance and administrative office, the security was provided round-the-clock, a surveillance camera has been installed. The arrival of a few wild animals like panthers, deers, wild dogs and sloth bears is quiet natural and care takers and security people may be forced to stay in the room at certain times. At these times, the footage from surveillance cameras is most important. Hence, the cameras are installed at vital point after a thorough analysis. The movement of two youths inside the zoo premises throughout the night two years ago was also one of the major reasons for installation of surveillance cameras. Apart from that the patrolling was done by security personnel in vehicle throughout the night.
