On the 19th of October, the highlights include the inauguration of the Durgotsav, followed by the launch of the annual souvenir, Bodhon. This is followed by a cultural extravaganza ranging from classical dances to songs by our teen band- Bandishe and a short program by the tiny tots.

The second day, Maha Saptami, UTSAV brings to you an assortment of traditional music followed by a bong’s beloved, a ‘Natok’ or a drama.

On the 21st of October, UTSAV is proud to present Raju Das Baul, who is just over 20 but is already a rising star in the world of folk music. The young Baul singer is doing shows around the country and has even sung in the opening sequence of a Tamil film alongside veteran musician M. Balamuralikrishna. At an international level, he has acted and sung in a play, The Absent Lover, which was staged in London and Paris.

On the final day of this year’s Durgotsav, the cultural offerings among others include renowned singer Sramona Guha Thakurata’s“Adhunik o Chalachitrergaan.”

As per Bengali folklore, on the day of Maha Shashti, the Goddess, Ma Durga comes to her mother’s home after a long year with her family. Keeping with the tradition, on this auspicious evening, UTSAV members perform a traditional Bengali ritual called ‘Devi Baran’ to welcome the Goddess. On each of the festival days, Prasad and Bhog of Ma Durga will be distributed to all those who visit the festival venue.

Since its inception UTSAV and its members engage in various socially responsible benevolent activities, like lending support to various NGOs in Bangalore (Samiksha & similar other institutions) supporting education and medical care initiatives to underprivileged children and so on. Every year it is organizing fun filled day at Kidwai Memorial Hospital to bring smiles on pediatric cancer patients. Last year UTSAV team members celebrated Christmas with these kids and brought joy to their faces with different fun filled programs.
