Saint Thyagaraja stands foremost among the group whose musical penance reached the zenith to realize the Ultimate Goal of human sojourn. Commemorating the 169th edition of the famous ‘Thyagaraja Aradhana’, students of Sathya Sai Mirpuri College of Music offered a special Carnatic evening today here, in Prasanthi Nilayam.

Thyagaraja Aradhana is originally conducted every year in Tiruvarur, the birth place of the legendary musical saint, wherein Carnatic exponents sing Thyagarajan compositions honoring the legend.

St Thyagaraja was one of the foremost exponents of Carnatic Music, born in Tiruvarur in Tamil Nadu, lived during the period 1767-1847. After mysteriously initiated by Sage Narada who came in the guise of a Saint, young Thyagaraja later earned expert training under to tutelage of Govinda Dikshitar.

This evening’s Aradhana began with ‘Uduku Gala…’ in Gowla Raga, Adi Talam and flowed on with ‘Raga Sudharasa…” in Andholika Raga, Adi Talam. A Veena instrumental followed next presenting “Bantu Reeti Koluviyavaiyya Rama…”. Rama Nannu Brovara… and Dasarathi… in Thodi, in Adi Talam next was followed by final number “Endoro Mahanubhavalu…”.

For the talented bunch of students and faculties at the music college, it turned out to be yet another wonderful opportunity to sing in His Presence, singing For Him.

Bhajans continued and ended with Bhagawan’s Thursday special “Rama Kodanda Rama…”.
