The Indian dressing room will hope that centurion Cheteshwar Pujara carries his fine form as the visitors look for a big first innings total on day three at the third and decisive Test against Sri Lanka here on Sunday.

Opener Pujara scored an unbeaten 135 and shared a 104-run partnership for the eighth-wicket with Amit Mishra to lift India's first innings to 292-8 at stumps on the second day.

Starting Saturday on 50-2, India reached lunch on 119-4. The tourists had a mini-collapse to 180-7 in the middle session before No 9 Mishra joined Pujara to lead the recovery in the decisive match with the series tied 1-1.

Pujara had faced 277 deliveries, and hit 12 boundaries, before rain stopped play for the day. Mishra made 59, his third test 50, before he was stumped by Kusal Perera off Rangana Herath. Mishra faced 87 balls and hit seven boundaries. His partnership with Pujara came off 165 balls.

Sri Lanka seamer Dhammika Prasad had the best bowling figures of 4-83. After only 15 overs of play on the rain-hit opening day, India lost an early wicket Saturday as Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews got an edge off the bat of opposing skipper Virat Kohli (18) to provide a maiden test catch to wicketkeeper Kusal Perera.

Here are the live updates:
