Although Sania and Martina Hingis making the women doubles finals was not a surprise considering their top ranking, the battle-scarred Paes, a champion in 15 Slams, has scripted yet another phenomenal story by inching towards another title triumph.

In partnership with India’s lucky mascot, Hingis and seeded fourth, he stormed into the mixed doubles finals after defeating the second seeded pair of Rohan Bopanna and Yung-Jan Chan of Chinese Taipei 6-2, 7-5 in the semifinals. The Indo-Swiss pair face Americans Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Sam Querrey in the title clash.
