Jharkhand rout HYD by 10 wickets
Hyderabad: For Hyderabad, the annihilation was both complete and clinical. To make it even more of an embarrassment the ten-wicket drubbing was in its own backyard!
They were thrashed fair and square by a determined Jharkhand outfit for whom it was ‘mission accomplished’ as they squeezed into the quarterfinals in what was the last Ranji Trophy Group ‘C’ match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium here on Friday. The only consolation for the host was that they managed to avoid an innings defeat, thanks to a gritty rearguard action.
Following the comprehensive win that fetched them an invaluable bonus point, Jharkhand finished second behind table topper Saurashtra, which aggregated 32. Jharkhand are back in the Elite Group after a gap of three years. Meanwhile, chasing a target of 27 runs, the visiting team achieved it in 22 balls with all ten wickets intact.
Make-shift opener Anand Singh and first innings double centurion and man of the match Saurabh Tiwary completed the formalities. Earlier, Hyderabad team was all out for 269 runs in 101.4 overs after they added 100 runs on Friday before losing the remaining four wickets
Overnight batsman B Anirudh anchored the innings by remaining unconquered on a resolute 77 that came in 136 balls and contained 10 boundaries and a six of Rahul Shukla. Medium pacer Rahul Shukla was the most successful bowler for the visitors with 5/89.
Brief scores: Hyderabad 145 & 269(B Anirudh 79no. B Sandeep 58, GH Vihari 32, Rahul Shukla 5/89, Jaskaran Singh 2/53, Shabhaz Nadeem 2/ 83) lost to Jharkhand 358 for 8 declared & 29 for no loss(Anand Singh 22 no).
