Asked to bat, Tamil Nadu made an imposing 312 for the loss of seven wickets, thanks to useful contributions from Baba Aparajith (77), Baba Indrajith (60 not out), Murali Vijay (55) and R Sathish (52). The bowlers rose to the task by having Mumbai bowled out for 286 in 44.2 overs, despite a valiant 107 by Akhil Herwadkar, who failed to find any partner who could stay in the middle.

His 86-ball knock comprised of 16 hits to the fence and one over the ropes. Leg-spinner Murugan Ashwin (3/38), Rahil Shah (2/55) and M Mohammed (2/68) did a good job for Tamil Nadu.

Brief Scores: Tamil Nadu 312 for seven (Baba Aparajith 77, Baba Indrajith 60 no, Murali Vijay 55, R Sathish 52, Dhawal Kulkarni 3/47) bt Mumbai 286 (Akhil Herwadkar 107, Murugan Ashwin 3/38).
