Karachi : Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batsman Kusal Perera has been handed a four-year ban after being tested positive for a banned drug.

Confirming the news, Sri Lankan sports minister Dayasiri Jayasekera said that the International Cricket Council (ICC) had reported that Perera's 'B' sample was tested positive for prohibited substance.

Jayasekera insisted that they would appeal against this ban with legal presentation and would make every possible effort to get the 25-year-old out of this issue, the Dawn reported.

Earlier in October, Perera was provisionally suspended by the ICC after he failed an anti-doping test.
