Agartala (Tripura): All India Inter-University Volleyball Competition (East Zone) for men, which concluded on the Tripura University campus recently, has become one of the biggest platform for youngsters to showcase their talent, and get selected in the Indian team.

Besides providing a platform to volleyball enthusiasts, the championship is a conglomeration of various cultures, where a large number of players from across the country participate, which in turn helps build and strengthen inter-state relationships.

"The tournament is the biggest platform for the youngsters as they can showcase their talent, and get selected for Indian Youth and Indian Junior teams on the basis of their performance," said Dr. Dalel Singh Chauhan, Director, Physical Education and Sports, Kurukshetra University.

The event has not just created a platform for players, but it was also a treat for sports lovers, who witnessed so many teams competing for the title.

"Perhaps for the first time, such a big national-level sporting event was organised in Tripura, especially in our university. I think we won't not get another chance to watch such an interesting volleyball tourney, and that's why I came here and enjoyed the matches to the fullest. I am overwhelmed and happy," said Netaji Baidya, a sports enthusiast.

In the final, two ultimate teams from the last year's championship came face to face, and after a thrilling contest, Chennai's SRM University team defeated Kurukshetra University to take the trophy home.

After winning the title, Akamuttu, a SRM University player, told ANI: "I am feeling amazed and happy too. Last year, we were defeated, but won the trophy this year. The match was really exciting and the boys worked hard and played well. The final match comprised five sets. Though we won the first set, we were a bit uncomfortable in second and fourth sets. But, we won the game finally."
