Hyderabad: “The whole country is reeling under drought conditions. Shifting of venues from Maharashtra to other States will not help as the situation equally grim in other States as well,” remarked Sunrisers Hyderabad’s mentor, VVS Laxman here on Thursday.
This came a couple of hours before the Bombay High Court gave relief to the Governing Council of Indian Premier League (IPL) while giving the green the green signal to the inaugural match Rising Pune Supergiants and defending champion Mumbai Indians, to be played in Mumbai on Saturday.
“Bad monsoon has been prevalent across the country, which has resulted in a massive water shortage. The governments and departments concerned are looking into the matter and are trying to solve the crisis. The problem is that IPL is always seen with a sense of negativity.
IPL is a tournament that s international exposure to Indian youngsters, who rub shoulders with the cream, of global talent. That apart, it gives a major boost to the national economy,” Laxman said at a press conference ahead of unveiling the SRH Jersey in the presence of the team think tank and players.
On the fitness worries surrounding their mainstay, Yuvraj Singh, said, “he is our star batsman. We are closely monitoring his recovery. We remain positive that he will report at the earliest,” Laxman said.
Skipper David Warner said that “the team has good talent with exceptional potential. We have two overseas captains in Eoin Morgan (England) and Kane Williamson (New Zealand) who have done very well in the recent World T20. We have good batting and bowling line up so we have no excuses and we are hopeful that we will do better than in the earlier seasons,” Warner said.
Ashish Nehra, who made a sensational comeback in the Indian team will spearhead the bowling attack. The left-arm pacer from Delhi played for the defunct Chennai Super Kings last year.
“Nehra is a great addition to our team. The way he is playing after his comeback is exceptional and he will surely be a match-winner for us. As a senior player in the team he will also guide and help youngsters in the team,” Laxman said.
Concurring with Laxman, Warner said, “Nehra is playing really well. We are playing on home turf.” Coach Tom Moody and bowling coach Mutaiah Muralitharan also participated. The SRH open the campaign against Royal Challengers Bangalore in an away match on April 12.
