Johannesburg : World number three golfer Rory McIlroy has revealed that he needs to overcome his 'mental hurdle' in order to win an elusive Masters title at Augusta National course.

The 26-year-old Northern Irishman's bid to become just the sixth player to complete a career Grand Slam again ended in despair as he virtually threw himself out of contention following a disappointing show on Saturday.

Britain's Danny Willett etched his name into record books as he went on to claim his first major after defeating defending champion Jordan Spieth, who held a five-stroke lead before making a series of blunders towards the end.

Reflecting on the loss, McIlroy admitted that he wanted to win Masters more than anything else, insisting that he would be able to play at this particular course well if he overcomes the mental hurdle he has been dealing with, Sport24 reported.

He was also left to rue his defensive-style of play in the tournament, insisting that attacking form is what he prefers.
