Fuzhou: Rio Olympics Silver medallist PV Sindhu on Sunday won her maiden Super Series Premier title after beating Sun Yu 21-11, 17-21, 21-11 in the final of China Open. It was not a smooth sail for the seventh-seeded Indian against the local favourite in the summit clash. After clinching the first game 21-11, Sindhu lost the second 17-21.

However, the two-time bronze medallist at the World Championship kept her nerves and made a stunning comeback to win the third game 21-11. Sindhu played with a mixture of speed and aggression as she destroyed Sun in the first game which lasted for just 13 minutes. In the second game, Sun fought hard and ensured that Sindhu did not establish a big lead like she did in the first game.

A couple of unforced errors from Sindhu had consolidated Sun’s position and she won the game 21-17 to set up a thrilling final game. Both players were tied at 6-6 when Sindhu stepped up and once again raced to a four-point advantage. This time, the Indian did not let go of the lead and consolidated well to win the game 21-11 and the championship.
