The 57th Inter-State Senior National Athletics Championship got-off to a blistering start, thanks to a new meet record in women 400metres hurdles at the newly-laid Blue Granule synthetic track at Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) campus here on Saturday.
Guntur: The 57th Inter-State Senior National Athletics Championship got-off to a blistering start, thanks to a new meet record in women 400metres hurdles at the newly-laid Blue Granule synthetic track at Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) campus here on Saturday.
The spotlight was taken by Kerala athlete Anu Raghavan, who won the race with a record timing of 57.21 secs that effectively lowered the record standing in the name AC Ashwini since the Lucknow 2014 edition
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh opened their account in the medals day with a near sweep in men 400m hurdles. Jabir MP clocked 50.33 secs for the gold while M Ramachandran timed 51.17 secs to settle for the silver.
Earlier, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao inaugurated the newly-laid track and flood lights and took the salute from the march past by contingents from 32 States. He reiterated that the 400-acre Sports City proposal would be accorded top priority by the State Government.
Senior leaders, officials from Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh and veteran athletes were present on the occasion.
