Guwahati: Boys from Telangana State opened their campaign on a rousing note when they put it across Jammu and Kashmir 5-2 on the first day of the ninth mini Under-11 Roll Ball National Championship at Dispur on Friday.

The star performers were D Aaryan of Sister Niveditha School in Ameerpet and G Rithvik of St Michael’s Alwal who scored three and two goals respectively. One of the heroes of Telangana was goal-keeper Saket while Ishan Chaitanya and Sanju did well on the field.

Two matches await them on Saturday when they take on Manipur and Uttar Pradesh.Around 20 boys teams and 15 girls teams are taking part in the championship.

Earlier, the championship got-off to a colourful start with Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurating it at Bogeshwari Phukanani Indoor Stadium. He praised the organisers for bringing roll ball national championship to Assam.

Present on the occasion were Sports Minister Naba Doley, Chairman of the Organising Committee LS Changsan, RBFI Secretary Raju Dhabade, and officials from Assam Roll Ball Association M Ahmed, Bhumidhar Barman and Anupam Sharma.

In a significant first for Telangana State, its Association President Rahul Saridena was named as the coordinator for the mini Nationals.
