India’s women cricket captain Mithali Raj being felicitated by former Test cricketer Arshad Ayub at St John’s Cricket Coaching Foundation (SJCCF) grounds in Secunderabad on Saturday.

Former Secretary of Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) K John Manoj, coach Jyothi Prasad and V Chamundeshwarnath, Vice-President of Telangana Badminton Association, are also seen.

In an emotion-choked tone, she hailed the role of her first coach late Sampath Kumar, who had spotted talent in her and honed it accordingly. In a befitting salutation to her other coaches, including those from the Foundation,

where she honed her skills, Mithali stated that she cherished fond memories about her training stints at SJCCF. She said that the mentorship went a long way in shaping her international career.

Ayub and Manoj appreciated Mithali for bringing a new identity to women cricketers with her showings both as a player and team leader. The Foundation felicitated her for leading India to the finals of the 2017 Women World Cup and for becoming the first woman player to score 6000 runs in One-Day Internationals.
