Peddapalli: The Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) is all set to set up an exclusive academy in Peddapalli. With prominent NRI Kalvala Vishweswar Reddy as its patron, it will cater to the cricketing aspirations of youngsters from neighbouring districts.
Stating that this was part of the larger plans set forth for the State, Association Secretary D Guruva Reddy pointed out that there would be a sea-change once they get an affiliation from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which, as things stand, was sending a positive signal.
He was speaking while announcing about the Academy, a decision that drew all-round applause from the gathering.
He lamented that in the absence of any genuine effort by the elitist Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) administrators, many a talent from the district that had the potential for rewarding careers had faded into oblivion even before they could blossom.
Guruva Reddy reiterated that they would continue to strive for achieving the goals they had embraced upon at the time of establishing the Association, which was to ensure an unbiased representation to merit so that Telangana cricket would be beyond the self-imposed restrictions of HCA.
He said it was a matter immense pride to everyone in the Association that they had 60 active full-fledged cricket clubs and almost 30 coaches, who have been trained by Syed Abid Ali, were mentoring budding players in every nook and corner of the State.
Guruva Reddy stated that as and when they get the BCCI nod, the passion-driven administrators and officials from TCA would endeavour to build stadiums in every district.
He said that with support from several people, including Bandaru Dattatreya, Eatala Rajender, Konda Visheswar Reddy, BB Patil, Laxminarayana, retired judges of Supreme Court Sudarshan Reddy and Narsimha Reddy, CL Rajam and Komalla
Mahesh, they were able to conduct as many as 1,200 matches for various age-group categories. During a four-game tour of Sri Lanka, TCA team won three of them, which indicated the quality of coaching and talent available here.
Coordinator Pingali Krishnareddy, coaches N Srinivas, Radhaswamy, Taj, Mahesh and Shakir, among others were present during the meeting.
