Hyderabad: A magnificent showing by Thailand men and women saw them achieve a historic double in the ISTAF World Cup-2017 Sepaktakraw Championship-2017 at GMC Balayogi Indoor Stadium here on Sunday.

There was no stopping the two outfits, with the players going for the kills from word go in both the summit clashes. They were so dominant that the championships ended on an anti-climatic note with each recording a 2-0 triumph over their respective opponents.

The men final was marginally better fought as Malaysia delivered but in bad patches. Thailand scored an emphatic 21-19, 23-21 verdict to clinch the trophy. India and Singapore took a bronze each.

The women final was miserably one-sided with Thailand giving no chance to Vietnam to come into the reckoning while posting a 21-11, 23-19 win.
Later, BV Papa Rao, Advisor to the Government of Telangana State gave away the prizes at a colourful closing ceremony.

Burra Venkatesham, Sports Secretary along with Chairman of Sports Authority of Telangana State (SATS) A Venkateshwar Reddy, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of SATS A Dinakar Babu, Yoginder Singh Dahiya, Secretary, Sepak Takraw Federation of India and Organising Secretary Dr SR Prem Raj were present on the occasion.

Results: Final-Men Team Championship: Thailand bt Malaysia 21-19, 23-21; Third place bronze: India and Singapore (Bronze); Women Team: Final: Thailand bt Vietnam 21-11, 23-19; Third place: Iran and Malaysia.
