Hyderabad: The Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) on Wednesday lashed out at the administrators running the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) and questioned their integrity while presenting themselves as the promoters of the sport in the rural areas of the State.

Launching a virulent attack on the HCA’s proposed inter-district T20 League at a press conference here, TCA President Yendala Laxminarayana and Secretary Dharam Guruva Reddy posed several challenges to HCA and urged them to set things straight, particularly over several ‘achievements’ they were laying claim to.

They said it was unbecoming of those who were the epitome of holding a monopolistic stranglehold, made worse by rampant corruption, conflict of interests and a hugely condemnable lethargic attitude towards promotion of the sport.

They wondered where the over six-decade old HCA was when the freshly-born but fully committed TCA began taking the responsibility of providing platforms to cricketers in the towns and rural regions of the State.

HCA has become the butt of ridicule with the claims made on Tuesday that they were the saviours of cricket in the district. They said that contrary to such self-trumpeting orchestrations, the cricketing world knows that HCA has suppressed opportunities of talented rural players and left them to their fate while denying opportunities even as there was an overwhelming patronisation of players from elite sections and those stationed in urban Hyderabad.

They reminded the HCA authorities that not only had they failed to create any infrastructure in the districts but they did not have the moral right over the grounds based in the interiors as most of them were allotted to TCA for conducting leagues and tournaments, including age-group championships, by the Sports Authority of Telangana State (SATS).

Laxminarayana and Guruva Reddy urged the HCA officials to forthwith stop making lofty claims about promotion of cricket in Telangana State beyond Hyderabad. IF any work has been accomplished at the ground level, it has been the behest of those running TCA, they said.
