Chennai: it was a long wait for the Chennai citizens for the Indian Premier League to return. But all it could play was only one game, as the protests began on Tuesday over the Cauvery issue.

Now the matches will be played in Pune, which is the home ground of the erstwhile franchise Rising Pune Supergiant, for which M S Dhoni played for the past two years. It was demanded by DMK leader MK Stalin and PMK founder S Ramadoss that IPL matches to moved out till the Cauvery crisis was resolved.

Actor politician Rajinikant added fuel to the protest when he asked the IPL spectators to wear black badges. There was a huge ruckus on Tuesday, as groups clashed with policemen and cricket fans on the streets. Some of them still managed to get into the stadium. One of them aimed a shoe into the ground with a great force. Police arrested 780 protesters.

As the police were unable to control the situation and they were unable to provide security in this situation , the matches had to be shifted out of the city.
IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla said in Jaipur on Monday. CSK’s first match in Pune will be against Rajasthan Royals on April 20.

The fact that Pune has all connecting flights with all the cities that are hosting matches also played a big role in it getting the nod.
