MUMBAI: Despite suffering stress fractures three years ago and struggling with a cluster of injuries, Arjun Tendulkar, the son of the greatest leader of the Indian cricket team in history Sachin Tendulkar, has been selected to play for the national under-19 cricket squad. The competent young man will be touring Sri Lanka with the junior squad in July, playing two four-day matches.

Arjun’s coach, Atul Gaikwad has said that Arjun worked very hard to get here and has never taken advantage of his father's name to get where he is. He is skilled and industrious, and all his painstaking efforts have paid off. “On a good day, he can consistently touch 135 (kmph),” said Gaikwad.

Arjun's father is very proud of him as he is living out Sachin’s dreams of becoming a fast bowler, as 13-year-old Sachin had been told to “stick to batting” by Australian pace legend Dennis Lillee when he visited the MRF pace academy.

The under-19 team will be coached by former India batsman WV Raman as Rahul Dravid is in England for the India A tour.
