​Hyderabad: Maharashtra scored an emphatic double by winning both Under-17 and 19 team titles in the National Chess Tournament Council National Sports & Games 2018 here.

The Under-17 girls title was annexed by Karnataka while Tamil Nadu topped in Under-19 girls category.

Hosted by St Joseph School in Asmanghar, the two-day event attracted the participation of over 400 students.

Meanwhile, the tournament was significant because it was a qualifier for Under-19 boys for the National SGFI. Ritwick Pal from West Bengal with an aggregate of 6.5 points topped the list of five. Two players have also been put as stand-bys.

Later, Dr Gayathri Devi, Regional Secretary, Karnataka, gave away the prizes. Hemanth Kachchawa, Vice-President, ASISC, Maruthi Ramprasad and Sundari, Secretary and Joint Secretary of AP & Telangana Regional respectively, KS Prasad and KA Shiva Prasad from Telangana State Chess Association were present on the occasion.

Top Three: Team championships-Under-19 boys: 1. Maharashtra (22.5 points), 2.Tamil Nadu (20), 3. UP & UK (20); Under-19 girls: 1. Tamil Nadu (22), 2. Karnataka (19.5), 3. BHI Jha (18); Under-17 boys: 1. Maharashtra (24.5), 2. Karnataka (23.5), BHI Jha (19); Under-17 girls: 1. Karnataka (24), 2. Maharashtra (23.5), 3. BHI Jha (19.5).

Individual (Qualified for National SGFI): Under-19 Boys: 1. Ritwick Pal (WB 6.5), 2. Vedant Agarwal (NW 6), 3. Singhania Om (MAHA 5.5), 4. Abhishek Roy (BHI Jha 5), 5. Vignesh Srinivasan (TN 5); Stand-bys: 1. Tandon Khush (Maha 5), Mehta Vandan (Maha).
