Srikakulam: Students tore apart posters of the Telugu film Toofan, starring Ram Charan Tej, son of Union Minister Chiranjeevi, at Ranasthalam mandal headquarters in the district on Tuesday. Student leaders and Samaikyandhra agitators had earlier warned that they would oppose the screening of the movie on September 6.
The students raised slogans against Chiranjeevi and in favour of Samaikyandhra in front of the theatre. They painted the theatre walls with the slogan ‘Toofan is stopped.’ On this occasion, the students said that ever since the decision to divide the State was made they have been agitating day and night for Samaikyandhra. But Chiranjeevi is not joining the people’s movement and his post has become more important to him, they observed. He started his party with the slogan of Samaikyandhra but in between he sold himself to the Congress, they scorned.
They pledged to oppose the screening of the films of Chiranjeevi’s family members until he resigns and joins the agitation. Stating that they are fans of Chiranjeevi, they clarified that their love for the State was more than that. At least now Chiranjeevi should resign and join the Samaikyandhra movement, they added.
