Facebook has announced that it will be shutting down its Notify app, which the company launched just seven months back.

The social media giant informed all Notify users with a notification alert about the same. The alert also said that the firm is shutting down the app and is "transitioning parts of Notify into other Facebook products."
Facebook launched the Notify app in November 2015.

The app gives users access to some of the popular news publishers. Users can subscribe to their favourite publishers from the list and get push notifications from them and stay on top of the news. Users can also set up custom alerts for specific sub-topics.

The app is considered to be rival to Twitter's Moments app.
The company told TechCrunch website that it will be integrating the functions of the Notify app with other Facebook products like the Messenger app.

The app will also be removed from the App Store. "Since launching Notify, we've learned a lot about how to make notifications as timely and relevant as possible and we heard from people using the app that Notify helped them stay informed about things they cared about throughout the day," said the company.

With more than 900 million people using Messenger each month, we think there is a great opportunity for publishers to reach even more people interested in real-time updates from their favorite sources."

Facebook has been trying to make its Messenger app more feature-rich to bring additional users to the platform. The app hit 900 million monthly active users in April this year. The company already has brought games, gifs, expanding stickers on its Messenger app and has recently also introduced new emojis. These new emojis are said to be all about 'Girl Power.
