Lenovo today took the wraps off its Phab2 Pro (or phab 2 PRO, or PHAB 2 Pro, depending on which version you want to go with), and I managed to get my hands on it just after the keynote.

Let me make this clear, because the press releases, stock imagery, and even the device we saw on stage today, do not really show the “phone” for what it is. This is not really a phone. It’s a hilariously huge phablet — and even that is borderline. Really, in my eyes, this thing is a tablet.

But I guess that’s subjective.

Sadly the unit that the company had out for us to use and touch in the demo area wasn’t a functional one — all we could do was take photos and videos. There was a demo station set up, however, manned by some Googlers and Lenovo-ers who were experienced with the tech.

Whether or not you think the new features that the Tango offers are interesting, it’s clear that some of the stuff that you can do could be useful for some. You can use the AR tech to measure the distance in 3D space on walls, play augmented reality games, imagine what a new hardwood floor would look like on your kitchen floor, and more. It’s not something that’s immediately going to catch the average consumer’s eye, but it’s an awesome tech demo if nothing else. One of the games that Lenovo was showing off today was a virtual domino set, which you can see below:

There were also several other demos:

While we couldn’t play with any of these demos ourself, we did get a chance to take a closer look at the hardware. As we told you earlier today, the device is all-metal with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 octa-core processor, along with 4GB of RAM. The phone also has a 16MP primary camera on the back which can shoot 4K video, and you’ll find a massive 6.4-inch QHD display on the front. The Phab2 Pro will also feature Dolby Audio Capture 5.1 along with Dolby Atmos for improved audio recording and playback.
