BENGALURU: In a quest to achieve an increase in the overall sales of iPad, Apple is likely to introduce iOS 10 with a unique strategy. The company plans to effectively end support for the first-generation iPad mini, iPad 2, iPad 3 and other Apple A5-powered devices with the release of the latest platform. The new strategy when implemented will make 40 percent of the overall iPads go obsolete, reports Localytics.

The report further explains that the iPad 2 happens to be a very popular device sold between March 2011 and March 2014 and yields a sales share of about 17 percent. Whereas, the iPad Air tops the stats with a stunning 18 percent share. As the company sells more iPads, it is possible that the stats might have changed slightly since March. But, apart from the fact that Apple now sells about 10 million iPads a quarter and with a 318 million total cumulative sales, the new strategy can create either a positive or a negative impact on the market. Apple’s intention to drop support may encourage people to buy newer devices, also increasing the iPad sales in the process. However, it could also encourage millions of users to stop purchasing a new iPad, which was once considered as the most preferred device in the world of technology.

The new iOS 10 is expected to come out with enhanced performance in all aspects, bundled with a plethora of attractive features. When it comes to privacy, Apple has announced that the new platform has end-to-end encryption, intelligence and suggestions on the device, rather than on cloud.
