Hyderabad: Is the internet boom time over? Perhaps yes, suggests the Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers’s Internet Trends Report, popularly called the Mary Meeker Report. This year’s report reveals further decline in the year-on-year rate of growth of internet users globally.

In 2015, the world internet user base increased by only 9 percent. The total global internet users now stand at 3 billion or 42 percent of the world’s population. Contrary to the global trend of declining rates of growth of internet users, India continues to record impressive growth in these numbers.

India registered a growth of 40 percent in its internet users. The country now has 277 million internet users. Significantly, India is the only country where the pace of growth of internet users is higher than last year. India is thus the second largest in terms of online population.

China leads the world in internet users. The United States stands next to India. This is precisely why the Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said last year that to connect the world, India needs to be connected.
