As promised, Apple has released the very first public beta of its macOS Sierra. Apple launched the operating system at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) earlier this year.

Sierra is this year's upgrade to the the company's desktop operating system, which was previously known as OS X.

This is the third year in a row that Apple has made its beta available to the general public. Apple restarted sharing the beta with public with OX X Yosemite after a gap of 14 years.

At this year's WWDC, Apple also announced the renaming of 'OS X' to 'macOS'. Analysts say, the renaming is more in sync with the company's other products like iOS 10.

Apple gave a copy of the Sierra OS beta to its registered developers during WWDC 2016.

The company has, so far, not revealed a release date for Sierra, but speculations are rife that the final version of the OS may ship in September or October.

Mac operating system's upgrades are not linked to any event the way it is Apple's mobile operating system iOS. Every year, the latest version of iOS launches with the company's latest iPhones in September.

Known for its secrecy, Apple also warns testers not share any details about the operating system. Under the terms and conditions set by the company for its developer, they are strictly asked not to "...blog, post screen shots, tweet, or publicly post information about the public beta software, and don't discuss the public beta software with or demonstrate it to others who are not in the Apple Beta Software Program. If Apple has publicly disclosed technical information about the public beta software, it is no longer considered confidential."

For those interested in trying the upcoming, just register your devices for the beta program.
