A device with curvy edges, F1s slips easily into the hand, giving an elegant look with its gold unibody design.
New Delhi: If you are a selfie lover and spend much time clicking self-portraits to later sit, choose the best shot and then edit it to wow your friends on social media, hang on. The brand new OPPO F1s will save you time and create a perfect selfie to show the world how cool you are.
After receiving stupendous response for its "selfie expert" F1, Chinese smartphone maker Oppo has launched F1s with the same USP and better as its predecessor. Let us see what works for the Rs 17,990 device.
A device with curvy edges, F1s slips easily into the hand, giving an elegant look with its gold unibody design.
The company has upgraded the front "selfie" camera to 16MP that not only clicks brighter, sharper images but also gives near-perfect photos that hardly need any editing.
Missing in earlier devices, Oppo has also incorporated a fingerprint scanner that unlocks the phone in a jiffy. The same fingerprint lock can be used to unlock different apps thus ensuring extra safety.
The device has its power button on the right while volume buttons are on the left. The rear camera and LED flash placement is similar to the Apple iPhone 6.
F1s had 1.2GB (out of 3GB RAM) free at most of the times when in use, keeping the phone away from any lag.
While phones nowadays are offering hybrid SIM and microSD card trays, Oppo's tray offers two nano-SIM card (4G) slots and a Micro SD card slot helping people who use two SIMs and need extra space for content on their devices. The 3,075 mAh battery lasts a day and even more on normal usage.
We extensively tested the cameras, especially the front shooter. The rear camera is smooth and adapts to light conditions quickly.
While selecting a frame which had multiple lighting spots, we could clearly see the difference in the exposure by focussing on different objects without changing the angle or distance. The photos came out sharp.
An algorithm to test and differently self-edit photos in F1s is appreciated. If OPPO comes with a multiple treatment algorithm for different photos, it will be the best device for self photography.
While testing the selfie camera, the shots clicked with F1s were bright and needed least editing to bring the uniformity even in low-light conditions than similar category devices like LeEco Le 2 and Nexus 6P.
The F1s comes with the latest beautification feature called Beautify 4.0. The front camera and the beautification feature together help users click perfect selfies.
What does not work.
The 5.5-inch HD display is disappointing at a time when competitors are offering Full-HD displays in the Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 price band.
We missed the front flash that has now taken the world of selfies to a new height.
Owing to its metal body, the device does heat up a bit but nothing alarming here.
Verdict: F1s is certainly for young people who are in a constant search for selfies as it considerably cuts down editing and clicking time.
