This Valentine’s Day, far too many singles are going to swipe their way into a bad date. By now we’re all well-versed in the pitfalls of swipe-by-attraction-level-type apps at finding someone genuinely worth spending time outside the bedroom with. For sapiosexuals — those that find connection in intellect — the Tinder’s of the world just aren’t going to cut it.

Sapio is a new dating app that attempts to pair like-minded singles in a decidedly non-technical way: through shared interest, intelligence levels, and conversation ability.

Sapiosexuals can’t be simply defined as people who are only attracted to the highly intelligent. They’re attracted to someone based on a matching level of intelligence, interests, conversation, drive, sense of humor. For many, defining oneself as sapiosexual has become statement against the current status quo of hookup culture and superficiality, where looks are prized above all else.

To match users, the app starts with 300 open-ended questions in its “question explorer.” Yes, you read that right; 300.

Questions like: “If you were the supreme ruler of the world what laws would you pass;” or “What makes you forget about your problems and the world around you?”; aim to provide real insight into potential matches that’s not often discernible in a dating profile. Through open-ended question, and (fingers crossed) honest answers, the app hopes to provide a window into the mind of other users before you decide who’s worth your time.

After answering the questionnaire, Sapio sets off to find you matches based on similar interests, intellect, and personality types. Once you find someone you’re interested in, a familiar swipe-to-like interface allows you to express interest. If it’s mutual, Sapio unlocks a chat room for you two to continue the conversation.

Like most dating apps, you’ll still have access to photos, filtering tools, and other features you’ve become accustomed to. Unlike most others, you may actually find someone worth having a conversation with.
