In order to enhance security as a part of modernisation of Indian sea ports and remove bottle necks across port gates, ensure tracking of men, material, vehicle, equipment and other assets, Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) installed Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) .

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) - based access control systems.Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation (Keltron) has been awarded the project of implementing RFID in VPT at a cost of Rs 6.95 crore for a period of 7 years.
As a part of implementation, Visakhapatnam Port inaugurated three RFID pass issue counters at DLB ground floor in the presence of chairman MT Krishnababu.

The system will facilitate all trade, port users, employees, visitors to get registered with RFID pass system for various port permits like men, vehicle, driver, material, which is mandatory to enter in to port.The main key objective of proposed RFID is to enhance security at all gates, automate and speed up movement of port activity,

generate visibility of activities in and around port area and to comply with ISPS (International Ship and Port Security Code). The ultimate objective of port is to accomplish ease of doing business in a more transparent and efficient manner using RFID - based access control system.
