Scientists have recently developed a new algorithm that can allow smartphones to help analyse the mysterious ultra high energy cosmic rays that emanate from supernovae and black holes.

Cosmic rays are constantly entering the earths atmosphere. Among them are ultra high energy cosmic rays whose properties remain somewhat of a mystery to scientists. They emanate from supernovae and black holes.

Scientists have calculated that, with a detector with a surface area of one square kilometre, it is possible to detect approximately one event in 100 years.
