Owaisi: Pyrrhic Victory of ModiNew Delhi: MIM President Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday made an impassioned speech, by describing the massive win of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a pyrrhic victory. Owaisi said that all along the BJP had been bandying about the talk of Muslim votebank. Now, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not only demonstrated the Hindu votebank, but is even consolidating it.

Opposing vote-bank politics, Modi finally played the same and that is why his is a pyrrhic victory, claimed the MIM leader. Participating in the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address to the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament, Owaisi said pluralism, diversity and inclusiveness are the ethos of the nation. The Kashmiri Pandits must be resettled in the Kashmir Valley. This is something he is totally committed to. At the same time, the Muslims, who fled the Valley because of militancy should also be resettled in the Valley.

Owaisi objected to the transfer of 7 mandals in Khammam district in Telangana being transferred to Andhra Pradesh for the Polavaram project. He also demanded a separate High Court for Telangana, by setting up a separate High Court for Andhra Pradesh. In an emotional pitch, Owaisi said, “I am the son of Ehsan Jafri, brother of Ishrat Jehan and the voice of the victims of the worst-ever communal genocide in Gujarat in 2002.” Owaisi referred to the Supreme Court observation, which blamed the Gujarat Home Minister for “clear non-application of mind in granting sanction,” since it was based neither on an informed decision nor on an independent analysis of facts. He said it was a reflection on the then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who held the Home portfolio in November 2003 when sanction to prosecute them under Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) was granted.

Regretting the low level of Muslim representation in Parliament, Owaisi said this appeared to be part of the larger goal of Hindu consolidation. Owaisi demanded that Prime Minister Modi make his stand clear on the issue of 4.5 per cent reservation for Minorities and not just Muslims.
