Hyderabad: The Telangana government will be coming up with a comprehensive report on Human Development Index (HDI) in the Telangana State. This is the first time that such an exercise has been undertaken after the government in the united Andhra Pradesh in 2007 released the HDI. The top echelons of the bureaucracy in the Telangana State have now decided to come up with a new paradigm of HDI basing on the TRS government’s priorities. The indicators in the new HDI include life expectancy, poverty alleviation, education and infant mortality. The Department of Planning is charting out the new HDI. “We shall be coming up with this shortly," said a higher official of the department.

According to the official, the earlier HDI report, though a comprehensive one, failed to influence the government into taking initiatives. The Department of Planning has decided to organise a workshop soon. The Chief Planning Officers from all the districts will attend the workshop. Principal Secretaries of Finance, Health and Education will also attend. The workshop is likely to be organised on Sunday as the day is celebrated as Statistics Day. Awareness campaign too will be conducted later at district level, the officials said. The initiative is believed to help the government allot funds to various segments basing on the inputs provided by the HDI.

The report will also have district-wise supplement to help the Collectors and other district officials understand social problems in their respective districts. "Government is determined to improve the living conditions of the people. Collectors must be aware of the HDI in their respective districts. If there is problem with numbers, we cannot make proper planning," says an official.
